Langkawi Itineraries: 3 and 5 Days
A sensible route through the island's big three — the cable car, the Kilim mangroves, and island-hopping — with beach time built in.
Langkawi's big sights cluster in three corners, so the trick is to not zig-zag. Three days covers the essentials — a beach day, the cable car, and one boat trip. Five days adds the north coast, a mountain, and a second boat trip without ever feeling rushed. Hire a car; nothing here is more than 45 minutes apart.
Three days (the essentials)
| Day 1 — settle in | Base at Pantai Cenang; beach, a swim, and the sunset. Thursday? Hit the Cenang night market |
|---|---|
| Day 2 — the mountain | Cable car & SkyBridge first thing (before the cloud), then the Seven Wells waterfall next door; afternoon back on the beach |
| Day 3 — the water | A Kilim mangrove cruise (nature, not eagle-feeding) or the southern island-hopping trip |
Five days (the fuller island)
Add, in any order that suits the weather:
| The north coast | Tanjung Rhu and Datai — the island's best beaches and rainforest; make a slow day of it |
|---|---|
| Gunung Raya | Drive the winding road up the island's highest peak for the long view |
| Kuah & duty-free | Eagle Square and a duty-free stock-up — half a day |
| The other boat trip | Whichever of Kilim or island-hopping you didn't do on the three-day plan; or a Pulau Payar snorkelling day |
Tip
Keep the cable car and the boat trips flexible — do the outdoor days when the sky is clear and save the beach, market and duty-free for a grey afternoon.
