Malaysia has three mobile networks, and for Langkawi the honest answer is CelcomDigi for the best coverage — including out over the islands and up the quieter north. A tourist data plan is cheap (roughly RM20–55 depending on how long and how much data), and if your phone takes an eSIM you can be online the minute you land instead of queuing at a kiosk.

What it costs
Rough tourist pricing (re-check current plans — telco names and prices churn): a 7-day pass with ~15–20GB runs about RM20–25; a 30-day 50GB-to- unlimited plan about RM45–55. Travel eSIMs start around RM12–15. Most travellers use 1–3GB a day with maps and messaging.
Tip
If your phone supports eSIM, buy one online before you fly and activate on landing — no kiosk, no queue. (Note: you generally can't buy an eSIM at KLIA itself — physical SIMs only there — so sort it online in advance.)
Watch out
You must register a SIM with your passport (Malaysian law). As of early 2026 some airport kiosks reportedly also want a biometric photo and your hotel address for physical SIMs, which adds 10–20 minutes — another reason an eSIM is smoother.
