The island's northwest is its adventure quarter. Gunung Machinchang is a ridge of Cambrian rock some 550 million years old — the geology that won Langkawi its UNESCO status — and the cable car climbs it to the SkyBridge. At its foot are the Seven Wells waterfall and the Oriental Village; across the interior rises Gunung Raya, the island's highest peak, with a drivable summit road.
What to do here
The cable car and SkyBridge are the headline — go early, before the cloud. Pair them with the Seven Wells climb next door. If you have a car and a clear afternoon, the winding road up Gunung Raya (881 m) rewards you with views over the whole archipelago and, often, monkeys on the roadside.
