Where to Stay in Langkawi
Pick your base by what you want: walkable buzz, spa quiet, town value, or rainforest seclusion.
Where you base yourself shapes your whole trip more than which hotel you pick. Pantai Cenang is the easy default — walkable, lively, well-priced. Pantai Tengah next door is the same beach, quieter. Kuah is cheapest and most local. The north coast (Tanjung Rhu, Datai) is where you go to splurge on seclusion. All of it is a short drive apart, so wherever you land, hire a car.
The four bases

How to choose
First trip, want everything easy and don't mind some buzz → Cenang. Same but calmer, or you're here for spa-and-sunset → Tengah. Tight budget or catching early ferries → Kuah. Honeymoon, rainforest, or you just want to disappear → the north. Pantai Kok / Burau Bay, near the cable car, is a quieter marina alternative in the west.
Tip
Rooms are priciest December–February and over public holidays; the wet season (May–October) is markedly cheaper.
