A 12-metre reddish sea-eagle poised over Kuah Bay — the island's arrival landmark and its most-photographed spot.
Dataran Lang — Eagle Square — is Langkawi's signature landmark: a 12-metre reddish-brown sea-eagle statue, wings spread, poised over the water on a plaza beside the Kuah ferry jetty. The name Langkawi is often linked to the reddish-brown eagle (helang), so this is the island's emblem in monument form. It's a quick photo stop, not a long attraction — treat it as one.
When to go
Come at sunset (roughly 6–7pm) or early morning (7–9am) for good light, cool air and few tour groups; it's floodlit after dark. Avoid 11am–3pm, when the shadeless plaza is brutally hot and the benches will burn you. Use a wide angle to fit the full wingspan. The folklore-themed Lagenda Park next door is a pleasant add-on if you have time.
