Tanjung Rhu Beach
Pale sand, shallow turquoise water and karst islets offshore — the island's prettiest beach, and its quietest.
If Langkawi has a most-beautiful beach, it's Tanjung Rhu — a wide sweep of pale sand on the far north, backed by mangroves and framed by dramatic karst islets just offshore. It's quiet, scenic, and largely undeveloped bar a couple of luxury resorts. Come for the scenery and the calm, not for facilities or nightlife.
What makes it special
The karst islands offshore and the shallow, warm water make it feel more like a lagoon than the open coast. At low tide the sand flats stretch far out; a couple of times a year, on the year's lowest tides, a ~1 km sandbar briefly links the beach to the offshore islands — a rare, organised event, not an everyday walk.
Tip
Come before 9am for the best light and to beat the tour boats. Bring water, sun cover (there's little shade) and cash — the few stalls are cash-only, and facilities are minimal compared with Cenang.
