The island's tallest single-drop falls, a five-minute walk off the Datai road — spectacular after rain, a trickle in the dry.
Temurun is Langkawi's tallest waterfall — a three-tier cascade on the north slope of the Machinchang range, an easy five-minute walk in from the Datai road. When it's running it's genuinely impressive; the honest warning is that outside the wet season it can be a trickle, so this is a stop to time, not to make a special dry-season trip for.
Time it right
Go in or just after the wet season — roughly April to November, peak September–October — when the falls are full. In the dry months it thins out or nearly stops, which is the number-one Temurun disappointment. Check recent photos before you drive out. The pool at the base is shallow for a cool-off when the flow is moderate.
Watch out
Bold macaques work the car park and trail — guard food and loose items — and the rocks around the falls are slippery.
